your speed can be improved if u have your ptcl DSL connection not more one year old. u can change your router i suggest u change it with Hawaii router u speed must be improved in future.

INCREASE YOUR DSL INTERNET SPEED

if your connection is getting low speed then doo following it surely helps,.

1) apnay ghar ma jo ptcl ka black wire araha hai…us say aur apkay computer tak jo taaar araha hai usko dobara say naya jor lagain….. becoz wire per carbon ajata hai….ya wire loose jor laga howa hota hai….ya telephone ki dabbi k screw dhealy hongay……..

2) ptcl ka black wire jo ghar ma araha hai… us say computer / telphone tak k wire ko alag kardain….aur direct telephone black wire per laga kar check karain k line main shore tou nahi…..distortion..

3) appka ghar apkay area k telephone exchange say 2 - 3 km k andar hai…tou appp kay paaas achi speed aeee gi..

4) ya ptcl k line man ko 100 Rs do aur kahao k meray computer tak sary wire check karooo…. line main shore nahi hona chahiya….

5) app kay computer tak jo taaar araha hai wo achi qaulity ka hooo……………

I am saying all this becoz i was previously using MAXCOM…. unkay admi nay oooper sari batooo k maday nazar rakh kar connection lagaya tha…. aur computer tak achi quality ka wire dala

I disagree with you. I have been using PTCL DSL for last 5 months and been working fine. Yes there was issue in the beginning but that was due to distorted line. Line and CSR suck no doubt but then I had mailed to their higher-ups and they solved the issue in few days.

PTCL higher-ups are very very cooperative. Something which you can't expect from someone else.

You can use a programme called "Networx" to monitor your daily download and upload bandwidth. It's a great programme, sits in your try and collects the data and is not a system hog. Just google it and you'll find it, and yeah I've been using PTCL DSL for about a month now and is working fine for me, let's hope it stays this way.

PTCL DSL works perfect for me as well. Ive been using it for the last 3 months in Lahore. Works great, very stable! It probably is a local issue, either with your phone line or exchange.

I am using their 256 K package and it worked fine till this noon. I can connect to the service without any problem but cannot browse. There is no data transfer. The worst thing is that I am trying to contact their helpline 1236 for last 7 hours but could not talk to anybody.

This is the biggest disadvantage of PTCL service, they don't care for their customers.

I would prefer any other ISP over PTCL if someone else is providing such package.

Pakistan has to be the only country in the world with "LIMIT BASED" DSL connections. Nowhere in the world will you find this phenomenon. It sucks....so called IT revolution in Pakistan.

Pakistan's Broadband and Internet Policy is seriously flawed...As for PTCL's dsl its good but the 2gb limit screws it all.

But I'm recomended to you MAXCOM DSL,

for checking your daily quota according to your package, use DU Meter, it will provide you daily / weekly/ monthly report of UP/DOWN , Bandwidth Usages.

Hey Guys,
I am also one of the "victims" of PTCL DSL.. got two 512K connections 5-6 months ago at 2 different premises and since then I am facing problems like service, connectivity, speed, Disconnections etc. I think their technical crew is not fully trained and is not well equipped either.
I launched a complaint about a month ago.. made about 10 calls... a technician finally showed up and made a big mess with modem setting, DSL started working on the computer temporarily attached for configuration but these settings were not suitable for WLAN. The settings he made were totally different from the one I have at other premises (same modem/router). after trying an hour he finally gave up and left saying I dont know how it is configured for WLAN. I am still unable to use DSL over WLAN.
I ll soon be returning both modems to PTCL.

PTCL DSL eh?! not so bad in terms of speed... but the ptcl service... man that sucks!

i ordered an upgrade from 256k to 1mbps in december... and it still hasnt sped up to 1mbps... though their system shows that the upgrade has taken place but they have failed to upgrade the backend ports... been a month since i have been complaining of this issue... and get this... the actual upgrade too place on the 7th of Jan... whereas i have been billed since december for the 1mbps...

thoroughly disappointed... enuff that i am looking to change services...

someone have any contact info on ppl in ptcl i can communicate my problem to? Adnan?

for Imran,

PTCL ppl do not know WLAN configurations for all types of routers. What router are you using?

I can help you make WLAN work, but with a small problem of disconnection/idle timeout after every 15-30 minutes.

Unable to fix the timeout issue so far, but WLAN works fine otherwise on my DLINK wifi router.

currently gaming isnt such a highend experience on a 256k connection. I have had a 256k over fiber lines for some time now, and have experienced hitches when playing games online. However, it smoothes out a little after a while.

I had installed a special drop wire before the ptcl people came to install all the equipment. The first thing they checked was the line distortion and they told me mine was one of the best they had come across so far. Well that said i had applied for 256k and got ( 30-32kpbs, which is perfect). I was not happy :p as i prefer high speeds (not ptcl fault), i upgraded to 512Kb speed, which took only 1 day to update. Since the day i installed the connection, i have never had any disconnection or speed issues and constantly get anywhere from 55-62 Kb/s which is outstanding work by ptcl. Am very happy with them and all i can say is ptcl has done an outstanding job.

an advice to all, check the noise signal in your lines, even if you have installed a drop wire. main reason for disconnection is always noise in the main line. also check the quality of the telephone line that you put up from main line to your house.

I was using WorldCall for last 1 year. There are two computers using the same connection through the router in my house, installed by my brother.

Now, after switching to PTCL Broadband, connections through the router no longer work. Computers do connect to the router and among themselves, but Internet can not be availed by them.

Can anyone tell me the right setting to share the connection b/w 2 PCs through a router, we have Linksys WRT54G router ......... THANKS IN ADVANCE.

its better to ask for a static ip from PTCL and if they deny to provide then u may carry on with Dynamic IP.
As i have experience of setting up many DSL and other services like Multi,Cyber,Maxcom,Worldcall and wateen on Linksys,Cisco and USR routers but I haven't face above scenario.
However i have 'Connect' cable net installed at my home.On their website i have sighted some special instruction to be followed if internet connection to be terminated at any router.
its better if u ask a PTCL person to configure your connection with router.or tell me specific problem which u were facing so that i may guide you in a better way.

Yes, shafiq, I agree with you. PTCL DSL support is nothing but Lot of Hassale. I have same problem as you, it is bcoze of distortion in phone line. I lodged many time my complain about it but not to avail. So I email to EVP, GM's,...and After that My problem solved within 1 day.. it's really work and amazing :)....

I heard that PTCL has revised their DSL rates:

512kbps for 1199 Rs
1024kbps for 1999 Rs
2048kbps for 4999 Rs

I think they have to improve their quality of service and after sale customer support rather than lowering the price to capture the broadband market.

The Student packages of PTCL are simply outstanding. The 512K package is for 839Rs... if you are using Go4B, youre getting a 100k connection shared between 10 people for Rs.650pm... but just pay 190Rs more and get over 5 times the speed without any sharing!

I have ordered it today, and going to dump Go4b as soon as I get the connection...

For all those who are trying to re-configure their routers from other service providers to PTCL or other DSL services all the modems are routers them selves so they have a local IP address starting with 192 and in most cases 192.168.1.x to get your old system working you need to change the address of your router to soemthing else like 192.168.0.x or 172... and change the subnet mask to a different one from the one modem is configured on. Enter the two DNS, Primary and Secondary in the Wireless router configuration and you will be ready!

SAARC HRD Centre had installed telephone # 051-2240633 last year. But this land line connection remains always disconnected and not working condition. Despite of making several complains to concern authorities and telephone exchange, PTCL TARLAI. The officials did not consider our request and compliant. And the above telephone line is still dead. I do request concern higher officials for expediting the matter to settle issue at their earliest.

I have been a subscriber since 2 weeks now and although I have called them every day complaining them about something or the other - mainly about speed fluctuations, they have been nothing short of being courteous with me. ALL OF THEM! They're much more knowledgeable than for example LDN. I have come across LDN chaps myself and they're not as smart as PTCL technicians. Hell, three of the LDN's customer service agents didn't even know their own VPI/VCI settings! I still continue to have troubles with my line but that is because my line is copper as opposed to Fiber Optics. I have been recommended to go to the office to request them to change it. It's not that the service is bad, it just ain't perfect at all times but it's much better than I expected and they ACTUALLY diagnose problems and tell you straight up if it's their problem. I think at this point, in terms of customer service and rate the best value for money is no doubt PTCL. Also, I ordered PTCL and LDN on the same day for two different lines. PTCL was installed 2 weeks earlier than LDN. As long as your telephone line is good and you're not pushing DSL across lots of kilometres from your own home to exchange, you'd be WAY better off with PTCL than any other hanky panky organisation. I am extremely surprised as I write this myself - why would anybody say anything nice about PTCL but it's the truth. Before signing up with PTCL I came to this blog myself. 'Dartay dartay' I ordered PTCL and I ain't regretting my decision. Now, if they just change my telephone line to fiber optics that would just solve any whatsoever little problem once and for all! im personally using LDN 512k for a week now, Speed is good most of the times Dowload is at avg. of 45- 50KB/s.This is at torrents. Streaming is also good. Most of important is that their connection is much stable as compared to ptcls, which goes to even 60- 70KB/s and then suddenly drops to 5- 6KB/s. Also their is no disconnection at idle like ptcl.

@Zahid If you are using your internal home wiring for Telephone which is normally installed by so called electritions then there are 100% chances that you will get disconnections.

You must have copper wire (which is provided by PTCL from poll to your home) installed directly to your DSL modem in order to prevent disconnections.

I have go4b 100 at home. The biggest hook in the package names, go4b or ptcl is the "1 is to 4" and such disclaimer. It's very misleading. Anyho, I use worldcalls tv serials portal more than the net, and recently the download links have become less broken. I didn't complain at their helpline. I wanted to know, by calling up ptcls helpline 111-202-020 if they had any such portals, to consider switching services. Well their helpline sure speaks volumes of what the service must be like, along with this forum. Event though I called on a sunday, whats the fun of a helpline thats off on sunday, when most of the support is needed, especially by the home users.
My question to you is:
1. what is the bandwidth division?
2. do you have any value added portals and such, like world call?
3. and if yes then can non-customers visit these to see what ptcl broadband has to offer?

i am using 1024 KBPS connection, of PTCL DSL and having no such problem although i am using NET GEAR ADSL GATEWAY ROUTER.. WIRELESS works fine too on my LAPTOP as well as wired connection..

I think NETGEAR is the best ADSL MODEM + Wireless Router + Wired Router in town these days, havnt seen in Karachi (but seen many classes on NETGEAR in USA, KOREA).

better PTCL to add MAC address filtering also,
with a better firewall in the Router so it can work fine..

XYXEL 6600 has only 256 Max NAT/Firewall Sessions thats strange!!!!!!

a netgear router? which model exactly? i tried a dlink 2640T and cant seem to be able to configure the wireless to work... times out every few minutes... but DSL works perfectly with the supplied ZXDSL wired modem.

maybe you cud post the router model and any specific setting u used etc.

What the bull shit the DSL Service of PTCL.It is DC on every 5 min and no one is listining in PTCL office.There is 200 % noise in my phone line and the heros of PTCL have opend my DSL connection on that line which have much much noise and taping on every 1 inch. What the experts the PTCL is hired. Solute to PTCL.I was using the DSL of multinet before it was fine but i suggest to use PTCL DSL connection b/c i want 200% line without distortion.B illing has been started and no service of DSL is availiable. This is Pakistan and Pakistan telecommunication ltd.

Here is some tips.
first get the optical fiber line.
A new land line.
Copper wire doesnt work with DSL.
secondly apply using 1236 youll get the connection.
Telephone will be installed 2 days from your order date. and plz mention that you need optical line.

It seems that a particular group is waving the wrng information about the PTCL DSL.

It is working perfectly 24x7 and having the BEST speed among all the service provider.

All other DSL service providers are using the same PTCL land line.

Being the first mover in the catagory of BROAD BAND PTCL worked alot from concept to the service delivery. They set the ground, injected money in the project, awareness into the consumers and practically provided the services.

Where have they been all the So called BIG GAINTS ? Were the scared about the risk of the product?

PTCL has improved alot and that is really a FEEL THE DIFFERENCE.

1236 is always On concept 24x7. If one says he or she is unable to dial 1236 i think he or she is simply lieng.

PTCL has announce 2008 a year of CUSTOMER CARE. Do check the newly established ONE STOP SHOP (OSS) - all the solution under one window by the couteous and freindly CSRs and congenial envoirnment.

For your kind information all the isp's are totally rely on ptcl so it wud be not rite to say that Maxcom and other Isp's are better. As im in Dsl technical support no doubt there are some sort of issue's regarding the lines and dsl sync unsync but that is not a problem of broadband its a problem of land lines . if u can change ur secondary cable den u ll definately feel the difference ..And one more thing to all who read this rep that 1218 is 24*7 availaible might be the line is busy but it happens due the call load comes from sindh and baluchistan...........

The average speed is depend on the package like if we r talking abt 512 Kbps which is the lower one so u ll get 45-75 KBps D/L and 10-20 KBps U/L.

I have worse customer service experience with PTCL and it's so called DSL service. Support is Pathetic.
DSL is insane always disconnects after 10 minutes. I was told complains are not entertained because of on going strikes, but this problem prevailed before strikes started.

I will recommend everybody Please get something better don't go for PTCL.

I don't deny that problems cannot be removed completely but atleast support service should be responsible.

Why should i suffer because of their pathetic and irrational strikes.

i am back again i found out some timedout problem with the ptcl connection.. specially browsing pages like phazeddl.com and working fine when using proxy surfing websites.

any ways let me come to the point where users are facing some problem over the PPOE connections.

Change your ADSL Modulation to from ADSL + to Multi mode if available in Router.

if you are using the Zyxel P660 Router then enable all services like WWW FTP SSL by loggin into the Router ..

make sure you disable the DHCP Server and DNS and use static Ip address.

the DNS servers which to be used are

203.99.163.240
203.99.163.243

i went through the whole forum And sorry to say that i m also one of ptcl's victem. I suggest ptcl to stop this so called dsl boreband service till when they get learn how to run average internet service. I read on above posts that all other isps are on ptcl backbone . If it is correct then shame on ptcl. Might only few diagree me about my post but lemme tell why i am and thousand of ptcl paid victom are not satisfied with the service. I.E
1. Unstable service . They commit whateva but they accepts that their structure still runs on 50 year old wires and exchanges.
2. The internet servers are fast secure n reliable but admins are internees. They even dnt know how to design Qos and policies i.E package n bandwith issues.
3. Untrained technical staff put 4 more stars on ptcl dsl service. Even i told many to how to configure router.
4. Marketing team is run by unprofessionals cause ptcl broadband still need to get underground tests and plan their launch according to international standard but their marketing team put the last neil on ptcl bed and their early launch of beta service make ptcl to gets a very bad impression and unpopularity. 5. Ptcl packages need to re design 512 n 256 comes with same bunch of probs the only difference is of price.
6. People who are satisfied with ptcl are lucky not end satisfied customer cause such satisfied customer are 1 out of 100% ptcl should need to work on this figure to improve.
7. Ptcl if put term 'Beta' with their service n product then existing customers might stay to watch the show And wait for ptcl proper services to come on the other hand the first impression of ptcl is not that good n responsive i suggest ptcl to hand over this service to any other local isp so that customer atleast get minimum for what they are paying for.

Hi,
Ptcl customer service not poor, they imporved it alot.Today i get my ptcl broadband installed and it was good. the arises when the electricity goes off but the modem was getting the ups but the local area network was showing limited or no connectivity and the internet was not working . I called ptcl they said that u cant use dsl durning load sheding but at the wateen router was providing me the internet.
Does anyone has the solution for this.can i use it on ups? or do i need to change my modem provided by ptcl.Thanks

Assalam-o-Alikum,

I may have the weirdest of the problems...Its been 3 months since I got the PTCL Broadband (512k)...Worked perfectly for 2.5 months...And now it just doesnt connects..Every time I call they say that your complaint has been forwarded again and that problem is with the exchange blah blah...Now to the weird part. The thing is that it works in the morning from around 5-11 AM...after that it disconnects and then doesnt connects for the whole day !!!

Dunno what's happening or what should I do...

Hi, I am a victim of PTCL broadband.

What a pathetic support they have. Non technical people are sitting at service desk to resolve technical issues.

They know few lines to ask on the phone and thats it. They even don't understand the customer issue

Really pissed off of this shit company.

They have a monopoly of fiber lines, otherwise, they would have been kicked out of the race as Market is tough and there are better options.

PTCL broadband is simply mugging their customers.

The most pathetic service ever i received. The DSL Yooo Guys sitting in exchange do not even bother to travel a few Killometers from the exchange to setup the DSL service for a customer.

They just handed over me the Modem and asked to setup by yourself and they'll come by evening to verfiy the settings etc...

That evening hasn't come yet. i setup everything but i am not confirmed about one thing: My user name & Password( As the one they given me does not work)

I even mailed to high officials of so called Customer Service Centres, (As they are celebrating "Year of Customer Service"

1218 does not respond

Exchange people do not pick their phones.. Im stuck!!!

Can someone tell me if i return the router to them, will i be charged for this month billing?

I am using PTCL and using its SHIRO modem. Since it was updated to 1MB link my download speed instead of increaing it has gone down to 20 to 30 KBPS maximum. I dont know what problem is going on. Can any one help me?

Sir,
You are providing a great speed over DSL, which is limited to only big cities, also you are increasing link day by day, but you do not think for us, as we live in small towns, here in available no facility for DSL. so we cannot surf high speed, as PTCLV Wireless is available here, it has only maximum speed upto 14KB/s only, which is cruelty, as compared to DSL. So pease do some thing for us.

i get conection on 21st of april and from 21 my dsl conection is been disconected for more than 200 times and my dsl settings are out for more than two times. and when ever i tried to contact at ptcl helpline they hold me up to 20 minutes every time.

hi i am havin problems with my broadband that it is working okay for some apps like bittorrent etc and it work fine i mean i am at quite a distance and my download is going up as 105kb/s but it wont let me browse (i use mozilla firefox and chrome and also had that lousy IE..
in last ten days ov april i had to add security for every page but then i disabled microsoft enhanced security so it worked for few times but again it started to tell the same story.i think it is some setting problem in dslam as my setting are good and healthy and their no DNS error.any i ideas? by the wayone day i went to ptcl exchange where i found many guys standing with their routers in hand with same symptoms.???please help me about it ..and it works sometimes when i reset both my pc and router.

Guys, I have used Comsats, dancom = now "linkdotnet" and ptcl, and strangely PTCL is best of the lot.

To get exactly what you are paying for, you'll have to do the following...

Firstly, throw that ptcl modem out of your window, it' useless it will disconnect every 15 mins or so. Buy a good modem, I'd recommend Dlink.

2) make sure your phone line doesn't have any distortion

3) splitter just doesn't work, it will only slow down your internet, connect the phone line directly to your modem

4) Anti-viruses slow down Internet, but they're necessary as well, so what you've to do is just disable port 80, 8080 scanning.

And thats it!!

Salam, i have ptcl broadband and it is working fine without any disconnections.. if u r facing any problems, check ur telephone wire. old wires cause disruption in dsl services. one thing i would like to say " PTCL should lower their broadband prices" to be affordable for many

Im having this fucking problem my internet stops working and all the lights are on but internet light stop blinking all static and mother fucking ptcl customer support never pick up calls unless you wait like 15-20mins and when they pick up they forward you to trouble shitters and you have to wait 15 more minutes for them to pick.
WHO EVER THINKING ABOUT BUYING PTCL DSL, DONT !!! FUCKING DONT BUY !!!

unfortunately i am also a user of PTCL Broad band student package, the following things with me and they are true
1) the day i get ptcl after 2 hrs the modem is off the reason faulty adopter acknowledged by Ptcl technician after 2 weeks of continous complains
2) over charging of bill and the person incharge Refuses to reverse the excess amount

3) from end of may till date my Dsl isnt working and despite SEVERAL complains no action has been take to Resolve it effectively
4) the technician who came to my home after 4 weeks of complain claimed that he wasnt informed of this complain when i asked him what took so long.
5)I TRULY AGREE THAT ONE OF THE MOST PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OF PTCL, CARELESS IGNORANT PPL
6)I WOULD STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANY ONE TO GET DSL FROM PTCL DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEIR SPEED IS GOOD AND PACKAGE IS AFFORDABLE BUT NO SERVICE

for 3 weeeks now I am complaining about my slow speed,which is about 2kbps,but every time they say it will be resolved in 24 working hours,now for 3 weeks i am complaining to 1218 but no one came to fix it.

i was wondering if ptcl officials work for 1 hour a day then it will take a month till 24 working hours.

When call to technical support, that said, everything is fine. Its too hard to narrow down the problem. The question is:

* Is there any PTCL wireless service which offers guaranteed connection
* Is there any PTCL service which offeres guaranteed speed without interupptions and without sharing speed
